These mini pizza swirls are perfect for an afternoon snack in a lazy day, but are also a nice dinner for two or can be served as an appetiser for guests. For this pizza recipe we have used Cheddar cheese and Gouda, but you can combine your favourite types of cheese. You can even make some vegetarian pizza party bites, just don’t add the ham.
Ingredients for 20 easy pizza puff pinwheels:
- 275 g ready rolled puff pastry
- 120 g Cheddar cheese
- 100 g ham
- 60 g Gouda cheese
- 60 ml tomato puree
- 1 Tbsp. tomato paste concentrate
- ¼ tsp. basil
- ¼ tsp. thyme
- ¼ tsp. oregano
- ¼ tsp. savory
Pizza Puff Pinwheels Preparation:
- Remove the ready rolled puff pastry from the fridge and leave it for half an hour to rest at room temperature.
- Pour the tomato sauce into a bowl. Add the tomato paste concentrate and the herbs, and stir the pizza sauce.
- Grate the two types of cheese (or use already grated cheese).
- Preheat the oven to 180ºC. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Unfold the puff pastry sheet. Smear the tomato sauce over the base of your pizza and spread it out, leaving about half an inch from one of the long edges.
- Arrange the ham evenly on top and scatter the grated cheese over.
- Lightly brush the “clean” edge of the pizza with a little water. Starting at the long end smeared with sauce and filling, roll the pastry up as tightly as possible. Press lightly with fingers to close the roll so it won’t open during baking.
- Using a very sharp knife, cut the roll into slices with thickness of about 3/5 inches. Lay the pizza pinwheels flat on the baking tray leaving some space between them
- Bake for about 25 minutes. If you like, serve with a dip or ketchup.
