Christmas Walnut Cookies

There is nothing better than being at home for Christmas, preparing yourself for the festive days and having the heavenly smell of freshly baked walnut cookies in the kitchen. We know this recipe from our gran and we make these cookies every year. Pretty much all our friends and relatives have tried them and they are always expecting their fair share of this Christmas goodness. If you have appropriate Christmas cookie cutters and suitable icing, they will be even cuter.

Ingredients:

  • 700 g flour
  • 400 g butter
  • 400 g sugar
  • 300 g walnuts
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon

Preparation:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180° C.
  2. Melt the butter, add the sugar and stir.christmas-walnut-cookies-preparation
  3. Add the ground walnuts, eggs and cinnamon and mix until well combined.walnut-cookies-preparation
  4. Gradually add the flour and mix until you have a dough.
  5. Divide the dough in half. Lightly flour a work surface and roll half of the dough out to no less than 0.5 cm thick. cutting-out-christmas-cookies
  6. Cut the cookies with the cutters. Line a tray with parchment paper and arrange the cookies.
  7. Bake for about 8-10 minutes. Leave aside to cool.christmas-tree-walnut-cookies
  8. Repeat the process until you’ve run out of dough.
  9. If you like, you can decorate the cookies with Royal icing.
